This has to be one of the most interesting stories in the photography world. Boxes containing thousands of photographs were found in storage in Chicago that belonged to a nanny called Vivian Maier. She was probably one of the pioneers of street photography without even knowing it. She never shared her work with anyone and was not discovered until after her death when the storage unit and its contents were sold at auction.
