How To Shoot Vertical Panoramas

Even with a wide angle lens, capturing tall structures like skyscrapers or waterfalls can be a challenge. Typically, you’d have to deal with distortion or compromise the composition of your photo by shooting in portrait mode. Vertical panoramas or “Vertoramas” as they’re known are a great technique to try next time you’re photographing to a large structure.

Daniel Cheong has perfected the vertorama technique to capture cities’ architectural marvels. You may have read about Cheong’s amazing Dubai cityscapes on Fstoppers, where he was recently profiled as a featured artist.

In this video, Daniel Cheong demonstrates how he uses multiple exposures to create vertical panoramas to photograph the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. He also explains some of his favorite gear.
